This past weekend, I took some time to myself and made bookmarks.
A few months ago I found myself scrolling through Pinterest and saw DIY bookmarks! I made my first stab at it, took a break, then came back to it.
The first few bookmarks I made ended up having their own little themes. Red and strawberry, purple, pink, and then one centered around faith. I really loved how each of them turned out and how different they felt from one another. The only thing I wasn’t happy with was that I cut the laminate a little too close on some of them, which took away from the clean finish I was going for. So this time around, I made sure I didn’t repeat the same mistake.

You’ll notice through my art, I usually stick to a theme. Themes are what I really enjoy most when I craft. I like to start with one item the build off of it. I think I gravitate toward themes because helps it feel less chaotic in my mind and it’s more appealing to the eye.
This time around, my first theme was playing cards. I started with the tiny pink dice and thought, what matches dice? Playing cards! So, I pulled everything together into a pink, playful theme. I also laminated these tiny little cards, which honestly melted my heart. There’s just something about tiny things, do you know what I mean?

My next theme was red and florals. Moody and cozy. This was inspired by my bedroom. Lately, deep wine red has been my absolute vibe. I’ll have to share more of my home decor at some point… stay tuned.

Then I made a space/star-themed bookmark. I love the little book charm on this one. I did struggle a bit with it though. I dont have many space themed items and I was sorta in a small creative rut. So I took a break from it and came back the next day. I now like how this one turned out.

The last one I made was more of a coquette theme. This seems to be the girly decor lately and I totally get why. The soft baby blues and pinks together just work so well.

During this process, I enjoyed making the charm pieces more than the paper layering itself. Usually, making a paper collage is my favorite part but I found that making the charms was relaxing.
Lately, I feel like I’m in my cozy, unbothered era. I really enjoy being at home and spending time with myself, which is something I never thought I’d say. Two years ago, I hated being alone. Now, I take pride in my “me time,” and a lot of that time has been going into little creative projects like this.
Quick Steps:
- Pick a theme
- Cut the paper to a bookmark size (whatever size you want!)
- Decorate the paper using scrap paper and layering
- Laminate
- Make mini charm chains using jewelry pieces
- Attach the charm by using a hole lunch or small jewelry hoops

I did throw them on my Etsy if your’e interested!
