Experiencing Luxury: From Humble Beginnings to New Perspectives

Sometimes I cannot believe where I am today.

Growing up money was always tight. It just looked different depending where I was living.

My mom was a young single mom. We struggled. We relied on state programs and there has been time when there wasn’t much food in the house.

Later, when I moved into the care of my single grandmother, it was more stable. We had everything we needed, but never extra. Most things we owned were second hand, from the dollar tree or passed down in the family.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but these experiences shaped me in ways I am now starting to understand. Now that I am an adult, having my own space, my own things and the anbility to provide for myself is something I dont take for granted.

I find myself amazed of what I have and I like to take time and reflect that everything I now have is product of my own hard work. My life is so different now than it was growing up, and I thank myself for that.

I have my own apartment, with brand-new furniture. I have my own car that runs well. I can afford vacations. I can buy designer bags. I work in one of the fanciest cities in Colorado. I’ve had meaningful conversations with millionaires.

These might be ordinary things to someone else, but to me, it’s luxury.

I think about my younger self. The version of me who didn’t know how life would turn out, who always felt uncertain. Now I tell her all the time: we made it. Not in a perfect, everything is figured out type of way, but in a way that matters more. Were safe. Were stable. And we build this on our own.

I believe that who you become is shaped by what youre willing to keep showing up for.

Keep up the hard work.

Not my car.. but the fact I had the opportunity to drive a Porsche, is enough for kid Abby to scream.
